Specifically, it has conducted a detailed critical review of theoretical discourse of two of the most prominent members of that school: Edward Soja and Mike Davis. This was supposed to be the highlight of these scholars excessive interest by presenting the city and region of Los Angeles as the dominant paradigm of postmodern urban development in the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century, and at the same time, it has tried to expose how that school has sought to appropriate the discursive production in Los Angeles against other voices within the urban studies. Secondly, we also wanted to show that in this attempt to become the main and most decisive voice in discursively construct a specific mapping of Los Angeles, School of Urban Studies in Los Angeles has succumbed to the growing influence of a new vision of this city developed mainly by Latino artists and writers, including about Chicanos. Thus, there has been an interesting process "Latinization" of theoretical discourse of the School of Urban Studies in Los Angeles. Thirdly and lastly, but not least, has tried to prove in this dissertation how literary criticism and literature chicanes have collapsed, for its part, from the eighties to theoretical discourse neo-marxista and of postmodern the School of Urban Studies in Los Angeles and, more specifically, to the vision "noir" disseminated by Mike Davis. • TRAINING AND REPRESENTATION OF THE IDEOLOGY IN MODERN ENGLISH LITERATURE OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY

    University: COMPLUTENSE DE MADRID [www.ucm.es].
Place of defense: FACULTAD DE FILOLOGÍA.
Place of preparation: UNIVERSIDAD COMPLUTENSE DE MADRID.
Summary: The author explores the formation and representation, and the various uses dialect that has been made of the discourse of modern responsibility (speech that the author identifies with the program philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche), in English literature of the nineteenth century. The author starts by defining the fundamentals of speech called to responsibility at the same time puts the first history of this speech at the works of William Shakespeare (Othello) and John Milton (Paradise Lost). During the first part of the thesis, the author discusses the early manifestations of hero byroniano-nietzscehano, the individual who is responsible for its own interact with the world (the future ultrahombre). These first demonstrations are in the poem by Lord Byron, Manfred. The representation of the hero byroniano (titanic that the individual is responsible for their own configuration ethics and aesthetics) evolves during the first half of the nineteenth century tailored to the dominant ideology during the Victorian period (example is the sublimation literary to be being subjected works as Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontà ") up to the proposal of Thomas Caryle (reflected in his lectures On Heroes). The hero carlyeano is an individual who fits in well with the Victorian ideology of faith, duty and the achievement of social group and, therefore, avoids the individualistic program (almost ultrahumano) Byron. The proposed Carlyle generates a dialectical opposition that is very productive in the nineteenth century fiction: the antagonism that keep the hero Carlyleano (in individual who stands in emblem of the divinity and in charge of the community it serves ) and the villain byroniano (in the individual responsible only for their own actions, free of any moral imposition dictated from others outside their own ethical frameworks). The author explores this dichotomy in the novels David Copperfield (Charles Dickens), A Strange Story (Edward Bulwer-Lytton), The Woman in White (Wilkie Collins), Treasure Island, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (both Robert Louis Stevenson) and She (Henry Rider-Haggard). The boom growing villain byroniano in the half-century English fiction keeps and updates many of the hallmarks of ultrahombre Nietzsche. However, the peculiarity of dialectical scheme proposed by much of the British novelists of the period of 1850-1880 makes it impossible to analyze the villains byronianos of this era as genuine ultrahombres. The second part of the thesis deals with manifestations of speech Nietzsche in English literature of the "end of this century" (c.1890-1900). The author discusses Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness, as well as a selection of the works of Oscar Wilde narrative (including the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and the stories "The Dovoted Friend" and "The Birthday of the Infanta") . In this part, the author argues that both Conrad's novel as the work of Wilde reflect much of the program philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, especially with regard to the qualities prospects in the program. These proposals are paradigmatic of the philosophical spirit of the "end of the century" English. But it also rejected beforehand bias dialectical characteristic of the interpretations on the statement of responsibility was made in the early decades of the twentieth century. In the latter part of the thesis the author presents two examples of the dialectic reading Nietzsche's speech at the beginning of the twentieth century. The first example illustrates the interpretation utopian program accountability. This interpretation is the one that articulates the proposal of Superman (which is a dialectic of ultrahombre) as a factual culmination of vital energy, as proposed by the Irish playwright Bernard Shaw. The second example illustrates the reading of the speech as Nietzsche ideology. In the novel The Secret Agent, Hoseph Conrad, both social institutions and movements of terrorist embody cutting forces dialectical ultrahumanas: pri 8 mere ar 415 ticulan the super-ego culture that contributes to a lot of globalizing force, while the second stand as antithesis destructive opposition. Both are fueled by ideology ultrahumano proposed by Nietzsche. The readings described in the latter part (the interpretation of the discourse of responsibility as well utopia, as well ideology) opened the dominant ideology of the twentieth century, namely the interpretation of dialectical speech Firedrich Nietzsche. The thesis concludes with an appendix in which he examines the cultural phenomenon of wagnerismo, and especially their role in spreading the discourse of responsibility.

    University: LA RIOJA [www.unirioja.es].
Place of defense: Universidad de La Rioja.
Place of preparation: Facultad de Letras y de la Educación.
Summary: In this paper we examine the contribution of philosophical system championed by the seventeenth century philosopher Ralph Cudworth, in his book The True Intellectual System of the Universe, at the birth of the concept of a symbol of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a central element of his literary theory. So we tried to identify and describe one of the influences active in the thinking of the poet in the period between the years 1795 and 1798.Nuestra investigation falls within a broader field of study: the search for the sources of the British romantic literary theory. It is imperative to emphasize that the study of the British contribution to the thought of Coleridge has been largely neglected in favor of the analysis of the influence from German Idealism, especially figures like Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Schelling. Our task is threefold: First, the acometemos overview of the different joints symbol proposed by Coleridge over his career. With this initial step, we intend to clarify and expand our knowledge on the concept, its birth, its evolution and the role it played in the various fields of thought which attracted the interest of the poet. Second, we investigated the possible sources of the idea of a symbol of Coleridge in the British Platonic thought. This will require, first, identify and describe the main ideas championed by the Platónicos Cambridge and Ralph Cudworth in particular. A second step is the investigation of receiving ideas from the latter in the century that mediated between him and Coleridge, in order to ascertain the potential indirect sources. Finally, we study the ideological context and biographical Coleridge in the years 1795 and 1796, in the context that fits their reading of The True Intellectual System of the Universe. The analysis of the works in which Coleridge copied and paraphrased excerpts specific treaty Cudworth, allows us to assess the level of knowledge acquired by Coleridge this work. Thirdly, we pause in their formative years, which in turn coincided with the time most prolific as a poet Coleridge. We set the time limits of our study in the years 1794 and 1798. In 1794, Coleridge introduces for the first time the idea of "nature plastic" in one of his poems, indicating that already had some knowledge of the concept before its reading of the works of Platonic Cambridge. The next two years are central to our work and in that period of time given Coleridge caught twice treaty Cudworth of the Library of Bristol. His "First Lecture on Religion Revealed" and the draft of it, "Remarks on Atheism," are extremely useful for our purposes, because it will enable us to show those sections of the book that Coleridge read more convincingly. This interest is also reflected in his poetic works of this period. In our study provide new insights into works "The Destiny of Nations", "Religious Musings," and called Poems Conversacionales, always under the prism of those proposals epistemological and ontological of Cudworth that Coleridge seems to have adapted to his poetic purposes.
