Summary: The main aim of the thesis is the study of extreme rains in Catalunya, its spatial and temporal organization that highlights the contribution of different scales weather to the genesis of espisodio precipitation, and the achievement of the spatial distribution of these extreme rains in Catalunya using objective technical analysis. It has analyzed the relationship between the maximum rainfall recorded in Barcelona 1927-2001, its duration and frequency, obteníendose a review of the IDF curves for Barcelona of great hydrological and generalized equation. We have characterized the unusually intense rains registered with the plurigrafo jordí of Observatori Fabra 1927-1992 and the urban network raingauge of CLABSA Barcelona 1994-2001, obtaining his objective classification according to the scale at which pertenecen.También has proposed and calculated an index of rainfall intensity as an indicator of the severity and complexity of the rainy episodes. A method has been applied to obtain objective analysis of the spatial distributions of the maximum daily rains in Catalunya, with the return period between 2 to 500 years, with a resolution of 1km x 1km. It has been estimated the probable maximum precipitation (PMP) in 24 hours and their distribution espacal in Catalumya with resolution of 1km x 1km through its estimate statistical and technical objectives of spatial analysis, as well as the MPP for shorter durations in the city of Barcelona.
