SIMSAFADIM CLASTIC: MODELING 3D TRANSPORT AND SEDIMENTATION CLASSIC UNDERWATER.Author: GRATACÓS TORRÁ OSCAR. Year: 2004. University: BARCELONA [ www.ub.es]. Place of defense: FACULTAD DE GEOLOGÍA. Place of preparation: FACULTAD DE GEOLOGÍA. Summary: The numerical modeling has been an important tool to complement geological studies in which it has been difficult to understand the reality due to their tridimensionalidad and having only a limited view two-dimensional or casi-tridimensional of the same. Centered in the study and analysis of the filling of sedimentary basins, numerical modeling can provide information on the spatial and temporal distribution of the sedimentary bodies, as well as the complex geological heterogeneity present. In this context, the thesis presented has focused on the development of a computer program (called SIMSAFADIM-CLASTIC) that simulates, in the three dimensions of space, the processes of transport and deposition of three different types of sediments and which incorporates elastic terrígenos interaction with agencies producing carbonate. In this regard, the software developed, is a pioneer in this line of research, as most programs modeling Existing focus on the modeling of one kind or another or sediment on modeling using only two-dimensional or empirical laws to simulate transport and sedimentation. The developed program has been validated by comparing the results obtained with the respective analytical results obtained differences between them very small or negligible. In addition, the program incorporates a method of controlling the amount of sediment present in the system (based on the method Mass Flux Boundary Control) that minimizes error and corrected the conditions under which dominates the component advectiva transport (numbers Grid- Peclet higher 1) and the Eulerian method used does not control. This gives a method of settling] to transport equation for calculating precise time low and does not contain a limitation on the number of Grid-Peclet. The program has been applied to the watershed neogena of Valles-Penedes (Catalunya) to validate the algorithm introduced in the program, obtaining satisfactory results and with a distribution of depositional facies and an architecture similar to that observed in reality. The limitations that now contains the program respond mainly to the simplifications made in the conceptual models that describe the different processes and that have been considered in developing this program.

ESTRATIGRAFÍA, SEDIMENTOLOGIA AND EVOLUTION TECTONOSEDIMENTARIA OF SUCCESSION ESTEFANIENSES THE REGION PEAKS EUROPE (ZONE CÁNTABRICA)Author: MERINO TOME OSCAR ANTONIO. Year: 2004. University: SALAMANCA [ www.usal.es]. Place of defense: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS. Place of preparation: DEPARTAMENTO DE GEOLOGIA, AREA DE ESTRATIGRAFIA. Summary: The Region Picos de Europa is the unit tectonoestratigráfica more internal Cantabrian Zone (NO Iberian Massif). During the Bashkiriense and Moscoviense (Carboniferous above) constituted a distal domain of the watershed of the foreland varisca in which developed an extensive platform carbonated with high margins (Training Picos de Europa and Valdeteja). Since Moscoviense Superior (Myachkovsky higher) until Gzheliense this platform carbonated was gradually incorporated into the wedge orogénica and compartmentalized in a series of flakes cabalgamiento direction EO deployed to the S occurred while the closure of Arc artúrico. In this context were developed new tectonically active basins and heavily subsidentes whose filling is composed of thick deposits clásticos (calcareous gaps and megabrechas, conglomerates and calclititas), sandstone, shale and limestone, marl. These materials have the tectonic evolution and the process of building the wedge orogénica, and the complex interactions between the tectonic activity and variations glacio - eustáticas sea level in the basins developed on it. This Doctoral Thesis facing mapping, and stratigraphic sedimentológico whole succession sinorogénicas estefanieses to the known shape of the basin where it is accumulated and geological processes alocíclicos who controlled the architecture of its filling and sedimentary evolution. The information gathered provides a general model for the evolution of the Region Picos de Europe and the adjacent areas of the zone Cantabrian and the process of building the wedge orogénica during the final stages of the orogeny Varisca in Upper Carboniferous.
