Summary: The argument is framed in the field of hydraulics River, as a contribution to the development of research methodology for the experimental research of the flow channels in natural and laboratory testing processes of erosion and sediment transport. We present a methodology for obtaining the particle size, applying it to two cases: isolated grains placed on a bed of sand grains and adding in various sizes. The method is based on processing images captured by a digital camera sensor Fuji FinePix S7000 with Super CCD HR. The results obtained in both cases suggest that the method developed represents a reliable alternative for studies in which it is desirable or necessary to determine the characteristics granulometric; distribution, shape and orientation of the particles in the bed without producing change in the same. An important aspect of work is that the process has been developed using images captured with a digital camera and processed using commercial hardware and software applications generally available in the Hydraulics Laboratory of ETSI Roads, canals and Ports of UPM, so we can say that this is a low-cost method, and also easy to implement.
