HYDROGRAPHY AND HYDRODYNAMICS OF ESTUARIES GALICIANS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF EXTERNAL FORCINGS.Author: ALVAREZ FERNANDEZ M. INES. Year: 2004. University: VIGO [ www.uvigo.es]. Place of defense: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS DE OURENSE. Place of preparation: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS DE OURENSE. Summary: Over the past few years both the hydrodynamic and hydrographic survey of Galician estuaries has intensified greatly. Due to the high primary productivity of the Rias Baixas, the west coast of Galicia has been the main focus of interest, while the number of studies in the rest of the coastal area has been considerably less. On this report is intended to contribute to knowledge of the hydrographic and hydrodynamic characteristics of the Galician coast, 10 which have been considered the Rias de Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa, situated in the area of the Rias Baixas, and the Ria de Ferrol, north of Cape Finisterre. In this way, it has tried to make a comparative study between the two areas costaras. The first set relates to the introductory chapters and overall character. Thus, after a brief introduction presented in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 describes the main research projects within which integrates the present study, and then describe in detail the study area in Chapter 3. This chapter summarizes, on the one hand, a summary of the most remarkable data obtained from the literature regarding the overall behavior of the estuaries and on the other hand, provides data on studies obtained former process for the preparation of this memory. It presents a comparative study of the properties termohalinas from the mouths of Rias de Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa over a period of five years. This study reveals the similarities and differences between estuaries coming. On the other hand, it also shows an annual survey conducted in the Ria de Ferrol, which shows significant differences in morphology, provide water and property stratification with respect to 10 estuaries above. In the second section explores how different forcing s affecting the behavior of different estuaries. Thus, in Chapter 4 is a description of transporting Ekman to 10 throughout the Galician coast. This transportation, which is responsible for the intense coastal upwelling observed in the Galician coast, is analyzed from two data sources of different wind: Base METEOGALICIA, obtained by the numerical model
OCEANICA CLIMATE VARIABILITY IN THE SOUTHEAST REGION OF THE GULF OF BISCAYAuthor: GONZALEZ POLA MUÑIZ CESAR MANUEL. Year: 2005. University: OVIEDO [ www.uniovi.es]. Place of defense: ESC.POLITECNICA INGENIERA. Place of preparation: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS. Summary: The Spanish Oceanography Institute (IEO) was established in the late 80's draft RADIALES, for monthly sampling ocean several basic parameters at different locations of peninsular Spain and archipelagos. The memory of that thesis presents a study of the variability Basin in the southeastern region of the Gulf of Vizcay starting essentially from section Basin of Santander, whose home dates back to 1991. Given the closeness of the continental slope in front Santander has been sampled systematically and monthly until the 1000 meters deep, which makes the series Santander unique in its kind. It was also used in the thesis data from the series of the Mediterranean, large-scale oceanographic campaigns, and satellite data, fixed buoys, drifting buoys, ships of opportunity and observatories on the ground, as well as climatological products and rethought. The memory thesis consists of three main blocks. The first one describes the structure Basin winter in the Bay of Biscay and discusses, from specific cases, the type of signals that are identified with the current penetration into the Iberian Pole in the Cantabrian. The second block is analyzed variability and the seasonal cycle of surface waters in the region close to Santander, comparing the series produced by the section of the IEO with satellite data and ship opportunity. It also develops a new methodological tool to analyze the seasonal cycle of the structure suferficial ocean. In the third section discusses the interannual variability of water bodies under the layer of mixture, related to the observed changes occurring elsewhere and considering the atmosphere-ocean interaction in the areas of training
