Summary: In this Doctoral Thesis has deepened awareness of the effects of UV-B on briófitos water from mountain streams, both in terms of field or laboratory. In particular, it has studied the intra-and interspecific variability of its morphological and physiological responses, as well as the influence of some environmental factors, such as temperature and radiation conditions under which they have grown. Likewise have characterized the possible mechanisms of defense against UV-B radiation, as is the presence of constitutive and induced compounds absorbing UV radiation, which appears to be markedly different between the mosses and liver. Finally, it has carried out the identification of the different chemical compounds absorbing UV radiation, which is due to its specificity in response, could be used in the bioindicación of changes in UV-B radiation in natural conditions.
