Summary: The vulnerability to the so-called "natural disasters" if Port is a study that seeks to respond by explaining what happened called "disaster" and how these are manifested. But at the same time we are familiar with the concept vulnerability as a cause explanatory called "disaster". We intend to explore the source of vulnerability, the patterns that define vulnerability and its relationship to land use. We try to introduce and interpret vulnerability (such ability or inability of the company to withstand the internal changes or environmental or to recover after an event) to understand the so-called "disaster" in small islands. We understand that vulnerability is generated by social processes, public policy, economic and cultural patterns. If enmarcamos this methodology vulnerability analysis at the local level, we can inventory a number of small local disasters that generate large disasters, as a means of prediction. The goal is the analysis and reflection on society vulnerable to develop public policies that reduce vulnerability: prevention, mitigation and Emergency Management. The hypothesis is that the vulnerability is created socially and there is political will to reduce it. The study is limited to the archipelago of Puerto Rico and the events of hurricanes from the years 1989 to 2000.

Summary: Three chapters dealing studying certain aspects of the labor market up this thesis. Our interest in the job market arises because many of the major issues of debate partner current political focus on issues related to the labor market, such as employment and wage trajectories of workers or a particular group of workers, in relations among workers and businesses. In this thesis we focus on the study of labor stability and its impact on labor income. For two decades, workers who started in a new job could expect to remain at the company for long periods of time and progress on the scale salaria regarding its antigà ¼ working age. However, over the past 10 years a general impression that labor stability for all levels of quantification labor of workers has decreased and hence, the prospects for wage growth along the career has been cut. Indeed, a review of the empirical evidence suggests that the average length of employment has fallen. Additionally, for any aggregate level of unemployment the risk of loss of employment has increased. This situation raises the question of costs associated with labor mobility and particularly the costs associated with losing a job in terms of wages in the new jobs. This is the question that arises in the second and third chapter of the thesis. To do so, we focus on the case study from different European countries from the information panel households in the European Union. Moreover, the growth of labor instability has also resulted in a significant increase in the rate of temporary, eroding the prospects for wage growth of a substantial body of the workforce. Therefore, in the fourth chapter look at the most important determinants of the increasing rate of temporary employment in Spain as it is the European country with the highest rate of temporary employment.

Summary: This study aims to examine the adequacy of the ordinary practice of environmental assessment (both from the environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment) on the stage of sustainable development. The environmental assessment has been serving as one of the most potent instruments of preventive environmental public policy, and has even coevolucionado according to processes of change and new demands on public policy. Over the last decade environmental policies are being reconfigured because of the tension of camibo caused by the paradigm of sustainable development, extending its concern neat way beyond purely toward biophysical and socio-economic issues. The reorientation of public policies under the influence of a metapolítica of sustainability requires appropriate tools for evaluation, which has been suggested as appropriate when it comes to implementing a new culture of learning and improvement in the relationship between the needs of the human and development process. This will analyzes and discusses the suitability of the methodological and practical tools for environmental assessment and the relationship of these to sustainable development, taking also into consideration the broad interpretation and practice of sustainable development and in particular the emerging movement of methodologies aimed at assessing sustainability. As a result shows that the environmental assessment tools have difficulty responding adequately to the demands of sustainable development methodology. That is why we propose a system for evaluating sustainability (SES) as an area of processes and institutional environment for a possible move to satisfy requirements for evaluation of the paradigm of sustainable development

Summary: Since its inception, cities have played a considerable role in economic development. A role that has grown in recent years and has been accompanied by a process of transforming the city. The boundaries of the city and metropolitan real are not limited to its administrative borders. Nor coincide with the continuous built. These limits must be sought in the intensity of the flow of people, goods and information that occur between different parts of the metropolitan territory, still belong to different administrative units. In this new urban reality, the spatial structure intrametropolitana, understood as the degree of concentration of population and economic activity and its spatial distribution in the metropolitan territory, becoming a key element. Indeed, the literature of recent years has reinforced this idea: how the metropolitan city is organized in the territory generates significant economic, environmental and social. The current trend of decentralization cities can be carried out from two polar alternative models: the model dispersed and polycentric. In the first, the heart loses population and employment driven by the high price of the soil core, the fall in transport costs and congestion problems, resulting in a process of land through peripheral settlements and fragmented little dense. In the second, the loss of economies of agglomeration in central task is offset by the appearance of peripheral concentrations, whether spontaneous or regulated formations. Ultimately, this research establishes a formal link between the spatial structure associated with the employment and economies of agglomeration intrametroplitanas that materializes in the formalization of a simple model and driving where the economies of agglomeration has a different space weather. The theoretical formalization provides a typology of economies of agglomeration as if its impact is metroplitano or local. In the first, the effect achievable with different intensity to all parts of the city, while the latter have a more localized impact. The empirical analysis allows the approximate range of the latter. The dissertation is organized into eight chapters, in turn, are grouped into three distinct parts. Part I, Chapter 1 to 4 is a strong theoretical and it reviewed the contributions that have appeared on spatial structure and economies of agglomeration, as well as the causal link between them. The second part, chapter 5 to 7, focuses on the goal side of the argument. Here, after an exhaustive review of the different methodologies that exist to identify the spatial structure of a city, it fits one for later identify the spatial structure of industrial employment in force at Barcelona metropolitan and analyze recent developments . In the last part, chapter 8, focus efforts on achieving the main objective of this research is to say, it comes with an empirical model which considers the impact of economies of agglomeration on the spatial structure of industrial employment the RMB.

Summary: The main objective of this paper is to analyze from an empirical point of view the process of pairing in the labor markets Andalusian and Spanish during the period between 1978 and 2003. To carry out this analysis we use labor statistics published by the national institute of statistics in its Labor Force Survey and the national institute of statistics of employment in their jobs. This study found evidence that the process of pairing in the labor market intermediated by the INEM corresponds to the theoretical approach of pairing "Stock-Flow" - Coles (1994), Coles and Smith (1998).

Summary: The research has found two large blocks. The first block has been the descriptive analysis of the labor market basque during the period 1993-1999. That analysis was based on deepening the differences in occupation as unemployed, skilled and gender. The second block is the theoretical basis of the dissertation, the objectives of the research can be classified into two sections that are clearly related. First, we draw on the work and Deaton (1985), which examines the case of pseudo-paneles independent subsequently produce works that extend the previous case, but always based on samples dependents. Our line of research focuses on establishing the methodological basis for the study of pseudo-paneles correlados in time, shows a model and adapt in a way that allowed temporary collect dependence on each pseudo-panel. Secondly, and closely related to this, we will apply the methodology to the case of the active population. We have proposed a process for selecting cohorts to create pseudo-panel and have chosen a model for the processing of data, it has been estimated that after an exhaustive analysis of their characteristics. The research work has required the use of programming in Fortran, as well as using specific mathematical and statistical packages such as IMSL subroutines or statistical package R.
