The aim of the thesis was to study the role of educational credentials and personal characteristics of youth in entering the job market, potential mismatches between youth education and the requirements of the job and, finally, the relationship between the informal economy and the labor market segmentation. To do so, first, we analyze the role of educational credentials and personal characteristics of youth in the insertion into the labor market from discrete choice models. Secondly, we study the problem of over - and assesses the existence of a crowding effect on the labor market through logistic models multinomiales and tidy, as well as wage equations. Next, a study was conducted on the informal economy, understood as a form of segmentation, between formal sector, modern, to comply with the labor standards, which includes modern technology, as opposed to an informal sector, unstable and precarious in terms of employment. We propose that the dichotomy informal / formal can be used as a criterion for defining each of the segments in a dual labor market. This will assess wage differentials between different segments of occupation, we analyze the patterns of mobility among various states working through transition matrices, and finally, we study the determinants that influence the probability of transition from one sector to another. Finally, it summarizes the main findings, which reflect the central contributions of this study are proposed recommendations and future lines of inquiry.

Summary: The thesis is presented that aims to generic expand and improve understanding of the effects of individual investment in education to analyze its value. Traditionally, the benefits of investment in education have been analyzed in terms of increase in the production capacity and reduce costs associated with production. However, the economic value of education is broader because it gives the individual greater efficiency in decision-making in various areas of his life, which affects an increase in the access to better jobs, better the quality of life and health status and in the decisions of consumption. These effects of monetary character should not be regarded as benefits of investment in education and resulting increase in the potential for welfare or satisfaction. Given that in economic terms the degree of satisfaction of an individual reflects their level of utility, the impact of education on nives welfare can bring through the trials being carried out by individuals from their own levels of job satisfaction. Based on this approach, the study presented advances in the understanding of the economic value of education by proposing new determinants, related to education, that the economic model of complete satisfaction and placing new herramietnas econometric estimate that allow the complex interrelationships that exist between the determinants of job satisfaction.

Summary: The core of the thesis is an analysis of quality models and assessment in higher education in the European Union. Based on the idea that both models as quality assessment models are mere tools and the success of the same university in the world has been valued by the actual results they had on the three activities to which they devote UNIVERSITIES: teaching, research and management. Over the thesis that the more we look, as the less investigated is the first one, teaching. Over the work provides a critical review of the most relevant input on quality and evaluation, in order to achieve a synthesis of approaches from both disciplines applicable to higher education. It also discusses the various initiatives undertaken by the European Union in these matters, because we believe that the government have played an important role in the empowerment of either model. Finally, we analyzed assessment programs from the agencies that evaluation have been implemented in the period 1992-2005 in three European countries: United Kingdom, Sweden and Spain. This revision is intended a dual purpose, first, to know if there is a convergence in the systems and evaluation methods used and secondly, whether some of the programs it has opened up changes towards improving quality.

Summary: The objective of this paper is to provide evidence to justify the equivalence between the evaluation system of university degrees employed in the countries surveyed and a proposal for mutual recognition of accreditation and certification systems. To fulfill this objective, conducted a pilot part by applying models to assess a country to evaluation reports racing another country. We comparisons and analysis of the content, structure and other aspects associated with assessment models and suggested optimum that integrates aspects of the various models studied and provides the main results obtained in the investigation. The main conclusions of this thesis are: - There was evidence of the equivalence between systems evaluation and could propose an assessment model that fosters optimal approval of securities and mutual recognition of qualifications among countries. - Optimal model was proposed assessment for the accreditation mandatory or voluntary Engineering Colleges to ensure, initially, compliance with minimum requirements (required) and then move towards excellence requirements (voluntary) - The differences in terms and concepts used in countries hinder the integration of models and the evaluation of international qualifications. It is feasible to integrate a model for accreditation of engineering model with a generic or specific aspects placing mandatory requirements in an addendum. - It is crucial to improve the approach and implementation of an evaluative model by establishing clear links between aspects to be evaluated and information, data and indicators that underpin the analysis. - We must improve the guidelines and techniques used to ensure the quality of self-evaluation reports and external evaluation to the evaluative judgments obtained as a result of the analysis of evidence is valid and properly grounded. - There should be an adequate scale (wide-range) for the evaluation of various aspects, criteria or subcriteria to achieve accuracy in the results of the evaluation (strengths and weaknesses) - The approach and application of the model should be considered the "curriculum "and" academics "as components of larger weight in the rating. - The definition of weights and aspects criterion by which assesses allows an objective evaluation, since it guarantees that the model is flexible in its application depending on the nature of the race. - It must define standards or minimum requirements for evaluating aspects that allow for a more objective assessment, some of these may be generic, however many will address the specifics of the discipline.
