Place of preparation: FACULTAT D'ECONOMIA. Summary: In recent decades there has been a widespread change of opinion about the role of government and the private sector in promoting economic growth. The emerging consensus is to achieve a greater dynamism in economic growth through an increasing role of private initiative. Tecnócratas, economists and international organizations have repeatedly recommended privatization as a necessary condition for economic growth, efficiency and productive job creation. In practice, however, noted the reluctance of the political class to such institutional reforms, as it generally considers public ownership as an element of political manipulation and a means of cultivating the patronage among groups of legitimation. THE RESIDENTIAL DEMAND FOR ELECTRICITY IN SPAIN: AN ANALYSIS MICROECONOMÉTRICOAuthor: FERNÁNDEZ VILLADANGOS LAURA. Year: 2005. University: BARCELONA [ www.ub.es]. Place of defense: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS ECONÓMICAS Y EMPRESARIALES. Place of preparation: FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS ECONÓMICAS Y EMPRESARIALES - UNIVERSIDAD DE BARCELONA. Summary: This research analyzes the residential electricity demand in Spain during the short term. This analysis will allow us to obtain evidence on the profile of consumer behavior, through its elasticities of demand and on the effects of the fare on the market. In particular we argue that the demand for electricity not only depends on the price of this commodity and the income levels of consumers, but also the characteristics of genetic individuals, their homes and their geographical location. In addition, residential consumers react to changes in their income level and the price of electricity. Given this sensitivity, the rate in two parts existing in Spain has important economic implications in the market, since it does not offer adequate price signals so that consumers manage their demand efficiently. To check the hypothesis empirically earlier an analysis in which they operate microdata from the Continuing Survey of Family Budgets, National Institute of Statistics, in 1999. On these data apply techniques parametric and non - parametric estimation, in the framework of the neoclassical theory of consumer behavior. The methodology and results are contextualizan, in turn, the international theoretical and empirical literature of recent decades. This research covers a vacuum works in the literature of the sector in Spain, offering relevant results on the behavior of domestic consumers of electricity. Likewise, the work provides the techniques needed to build an adequate database and capable of being used in the analysis with micro power demand in Spain. Analyzes because a pattern length, the various factors influencing the decision to privatize the service, and the consequences of such a decision on the distribution of prices between different types of consumers. I get different results. At the beginning of democracy, the most likely privatization in township areas where there are no previous cases of privatization. In recent times, you get the opposite result (the so-called proximity effect). I defend the need for a model to estimate the duration determinants of privatization. Finally, I find that privatization has resulted in a decrease in the difference between a need for industrial use and price for domestic use.
