Summary: The waste from electric arc furnaces used in the process Waelz to produce oxide Waelz. This is subject to a double leaching in which halides are primarily eliminated, F, Na and Cl. Based on this oxide Waelz doubly leachate, this paper proposes a process for the recovery of high purity ZnO that can be used in the pharmaceutical industry, pigments and tires among others. The process consists of the following stages: leaching, oxidation, cementation, precipitation and calcining. We have optimized operating conditions of each stage and analyzed the corresponding solutions and solids obtained.
