    Summary: The process of the region of Madrid and urban areas of central Spain has taken since the mid-twentieth century some unique features which distinguish it clearly from what has happened in other cities of national and European environment. Many factors inherent and unique to the metropolitan Madrid have influenced this unique behavior in the current configuration of land, as well as in terms of intensity, and temporary addresses movements geodemográficos. This paper tries to achieve a comprehensive and integrated vision of the territory in question, to achieve a more thorough understanding of its dynamics in the past, at present and in the immediate future. A regional process which has generated and is generating in recent times some specific features in many aspects geodemográficos, such as the articulation of the territory, the distribution of developed space, the flow of people in the urban region, both pendulares as residential or extraordinary wave of immigration of foreign nationals in the early twenty-first century.
