Summary: This research work is inserted inside the study on the economic, social and cultural rights that are taking place in rural Europe in recent decades, including the diversification of its economy through the marketing of food products quality and rural tourism. These activities are being encouraged by the emergence of consumer segments favorable to consumption and / or use, and the existence of public policies that encourage their development. The main aim of the thesis was to analyze the marketing strategies of rural enterprises engaged in the development of food products quality and rural tourism. In turn, has sought to explore the development of marketing networks in the participating farmers through cooperatives and associations, intermediary firms, and public and private institutions at the local, county, or regional basis. From the literature review on certain key concepts, and conducting surveys and personal interviews with the actors involved in the marketing of these products and services, has been granted a series of results. Among the points that we are highlighting the quality development as a tool for the differentiation of the offer, valuation and use of local resources in setting up the tourist and agri-food in rural areas Valencia, the use of new technologies in the promotion and sales, and the empowerment of the shorter channels of distribution. In conclusion, we note that the shares more attractive to develop marketing strategies are those that link rural tourism and agri-food products with the territory. Moreover, it would be interesting to develop and strengthen the marketing networks outside the local level, so that the message we want to convey is not diluted among different actors involved in the marketing.
  • COMPLEX SYSTEMS AND EXOSOMATIC ENRGY METABOLISM OF HUMAN SOCIETIES

Summary: This thesis focuses on the importance of energy flows to explain the evolution of the economies in time, from junior to senior organization, from junior to senior complexity. The first part consists of 5 chapters, mainly theoretical content. This section deals with the relationship between economic theory, the theory of complex systems and thermodynamics. Chapter 1 presents briefly the relationship between complexity, energy and economy, which are covered in more detail in the rest of the thesis. Chapter 2 presents the analysis under the energetic approach of the various schools of economic thought. Particular emphasis is given to return to classic interest in the production, as recently emerged among those who are called "ecological economists." In fact, one of the greatest advances of these has been the incorporation of thermodynamics to the economic analysis. In particular, he spoke of the importance of the Second Law of Thermodynamics and its most important result, the irreversibility of the process, which highlights the importance of history. Chapter 3, deals with a brief items of complexity and self-organization. Chapter 4 uses the concepts developed in previous chapters to characterize human systems (peeconomías) and open systems far from equilibrium (thermodynamic). It presents, in turn, their main features, which include its hierarchical nature and its performance through cycles auto-catalíticos linking the different levels of the system. The evolution of economic systems is the subject of Chapter 5, both from an economic perspective and from a traditional evolutionary, in which "history". The explanation is based on the thermodynamic analysis, where the emphasis is on the relationship between the dissipation of energy and development. The second part of the thesis consists of 4 articles published in international journals (Chapters 6 to 9), and an article that will be sent soon to a magazine and will be presented at an international conference in the summer of 2005. Chapter 6 deals with the empiricism in ecological economics to analyze the evolution of societies. Chapter 7 presents the first application made in 2001 of the methodology MSIASM to analyze the evolution of the Spanish economy over time. Chapter 8 is an improvement and theoretical development, and help them understand the potential value of the methodology used, by including concepts such as the "mosaic effect" or the analysis of cycles impredicativos. Chapter 9 presents another application of MSIASM. In this case it is understood the potential of the methodology to help explain past trajectories of development, and to develop scenarios for future development. Chapter 10 represents an analysis of the economic development of a major player in the world economy at present, China, to offer different answers to the typical questions about the relationship between development and dissipation of energy.
  • WIND ENERGY AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND TERRITORIAL WIND FARMS IN RURAL AREAS DISADVANTAGED EUROPE.

Summary: The thesis wind and local development, comparative study on the socioeconomic effects and territorial wind farms in rural areas disadvantaged Europe, is presented in three parts. In the introductory part, have written four chapters: the first is dedicated to the field of wind energy, the second to the problem or research topic, the third in the study areas and the fourth in the research methodology. The second part of the work, which consists of six chapters, we have identified the socioeconomic effects of windfarms (capital investment, increase in the activity of tissue local companies, establishment and consolidation of companies, maintenance and creation employment increased financial resources of local corporations, creating new income for the population and tourism development and promotion of the territory) in the six rural areas that are the areas of study: Nord Friesland and Uckermark in Germany, in Mount Iberian Spain, the commonwealths of Rougier of Camarès and Plateau de Gentioux in the French Massif Central, the pooling of Minervois in Cabardès and Canton Narbonne in depression Ouest de l'Aude (France) and the municipalities of Sclafani Bagni and in the Caltavuturo Sicily (Italy). In the third part of the thesis, these have been assessed socioeconomic effects in order to determine how rural areas, the introduction of wind farms has been more favorable. Keywords: wind energy, renewable energy, rural development, local development, wind farms, land use planning.
