Summary: Analysis of the process of setting the nationalist past representation of Ireland between the time of naciemeineto of modern Irish nationalism, in the mid-nineteenth century, and the consolidation of the Irish Free State, which enshrines this story as official history. The work is based on the study of the founding texts of the nationalist historiografia, differentiating two stages, the stories of literary / popular and the academic, from the final decade of the nineteenth century. The first group, which characterizes the nationalist popular model in the history of Ireland, are the texts of "The Spirit of the Nation," John Mitchell. AM Sullivan and Charles Gavan Duffy. The second focuses on the work of Eoin MacNeill, shaft work, complete with the history of Ireland by Edmund Curtis. It examines the evolution of the representation of the nationalist past in a way compared, taking into account the definition of national subject, content and its structure, the formal aspects and the political message they transmit. We conclude that the story is the canonical end result of a process of refinement of an initial interpretation of the past that remains unchanged in its historiographical constituent elements, which are tailored depending on the evolution of conÍ/3xtopolítico and demands of academic practice historical work. As resource for policy intervention, nationalist representation of the past limited their posibilidade of evolution by the need to maintain consistency and functionality ideological politics, so it is only partially affected by the renovation historiográfica which generalizes from the final years nineteenth century. Thus, the statute scientist in the history of Ireland produced from the perspective nationalist ideology is indeed precarious.

Summary: Among the gods of the Greek pantheon, Athena has always been a prominently, mainly due to his character's protective arms of the cities. However, this feature is only one more since, under an iconography of warrior goddess, the goddess hides a highly complex and sometimes contradictory. Thus, in Asia Minor Athena appears as a dual divinity, following in the footsteps of some goddesses anatólicas and eastern next. She is at the same time protecting the feminine universe (in all its forms) and the civic world (including, of course, war). However, this dual nature that we know for the entire period covered by the presence of the goddess in Asia Minor (since VIII BC to AD IV), develops in time and space. It must therefore contextualize cults in its historical and geographical context for it, being the religion a part of Greek culture, while changing it. Due to the richness cultic we found under some formal aspects rather homogénenos, it is possible to speak rather of cults in the plural to singular worship.

Summary: The fundamental aim of the doctoral thesis was to analyze the structure of the parish marital San Mateo Osorno between 1796-1896, unique in its kind within the city limits, that is, we try to identify and marital sexual behavior of women and man, as spousal unity, but also outside the establishment of the link, those behaviors at odds with Christian morals, or outside the model of social order, such as amancebamiento, concubinage, bigamy and other forms of cohabitation be frequent enough . This leads us to think of a double standard social, which is checked by an abundance of criminal cases, the high level of violence and marital relations disruptive, regarded as illegal. We tried pesquisar influence they had the quality of socio couples at the time of marriage, while the degree of miscegenation reached by the population as well as the intervention of other variables, including the degree of illegitimacy of the married couples; the influence that took migration flows and the role played by the church, the monarchy and the state Republican in the defense of Christian marriage and the family, through the imposition of church and legal standards, and which was the reaction of society because of the imposition of a social model and hierarchical, based on repression to that of maintaining a rigid order that riprimía any shadow of alteration, or for an alternative order. We have tried to demonstrate that the vast majority of families considered the elite osornina were formed from matrimonial alliances, emerged among German immigrants and families Chilean greater economic power, regarded as repobladoras, thus giving continuity to endogamous system as a means supporting the status and maintenance of the family estates. From there, we have studied in a general way the unfolding of five families representing the local elite, which is emparientan including getting a strengthening economic and social development in the community.

Summary: In the doctoral thesis, we study the evolution of the Fukuyama thesis about the end of history, rebuilt the international debate that was generated around this theory, and it reflects the view of its critics, as well as dialogue with Fukuyama . Simultaneously, it shows the evolution of events and their relationship with the Fukuyama thesis since it appeared until now, always bearing in mind that Fukuyama involved in the discussion as well as intellectual and political entity, as it showed from the very first moment a high the degree of commitment to their time and with certain neoconservative policies. Thus, we investigated the end of the story relating to the history of events, politics, and theoretical concepts, explanatory building bridges between each level and the historical, political, sociological or intellectual who belonged . It methodology led us to offer both partial conclusions as all the different purposes of history, which reached a wealth descriptive, a variety explanatory and excellent analytical complexity, which resulted in at the same time we could reach some surprising findings overall. As a result of the foregoing, has been studied triple end of history posed Fukuyama: The end of the events, so the end of ideologies and thought, since Fukuyama gives back to the events, operating with an ideological myopia and with a clear stance on theological theory. Meteorológicamente, the dissertation is part of the "New intellectual history" in relation to the history and historiografías immediate for the purpose of working with a number of ideas at once and perform a complete history and poliédrica, product of some very diverse and interdisciplinary sources . On the other hand, it also opened the debate as to keep under investigation in connection Fukuyama's views with those of his critics and the developments in historical and political. All this in the context of the construction of a new paradigm historiography is framed in the so-called culture wars and wars science.
  • THE FISHING FOR WHALES AND SPERM WHALES IN GALICIAS SINCE THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY TO CENTURY. STUDY HISTORICAL AND EDITING DOCUMENTS

Summary: The dissertation is a study of the historic whaling activity in Galicia, since it began in the thirteenth century until the twentieth century. It is structured in two parts: The historical study and the collection of documents in which compiles and transcribe documents relating to this activity have been found in more than two dozen files. The history of whaling activity in Galicia comprises two eras. The first concluded in the first quarter of the eighteenth century, when it consumed the demise of the whale franca in this part of the Atlantic Ocean, because on this kind of cetacean rested the future of whaling activity in the Media Age and Modern. The reason for this is the coastal habits of this species during the winter, his swimming more slowly and the buoyancy of the body after death, thus losing losing the catch. Therefore, were systematically arrested for centuries by the ancient whalers fitted with hand harpoons and boats mixed propulsion (sail and oars). The Basque whalers are the protagonists of the motion until the end of the sixteenth century and early seventeenth, when they are displaced by shipowners and mareantes the Galician ports. In the twenties of the twentieth century is restarted whaling activity in Galicia, through two companies anglo-noruega establishing a factory land in the estuary and Cee Corcubión and another floating in the River of Vigo. After World War II are two companies Galician (IBSA and Masó brothers HS), who develop this industry, establishing three factories land in the three coastal provinces of Galicia: Caneliñas (Coruá) Cangas del Morrazo (Pontevedra) and Morás ( Lugo). In 1986 cease the activity and dismantle this industry to come into effect the moratorium of the International Whaling Commission bans the commercial catch of cetaceans. Both periods will differ from technical point of view and biological, after the impact of the Industrial Revolution meant that a whole series of innovations, such as the use of steamships or the use of guns and explosive harpoons. Thus, if in the previous stage was the whaling frank species widely captured, in the twentieth century the great fin whales until then impossible to capturar- were species subject to industrial exploitation.

Summary: With the use of a methodology conveniently contrasting Roman road in the investigation, based on the analysis of archaeological and documentary sources, along with a subsequent surface archaeological exploration in the area, aims to identify and analyze the structure Roman road in the province of Lugo . To reach this goal, part of a hypothesis transformation of the network that tries to explain the causes and consequences of this implementation viarai Roman in northern Gallaecia, as well as the possible strength and function of each of the roads. Thus, establishing two moments constructive successive chronologically, guided by different intentions. The first, which can be seconding time augústea, would aim to link, through avenues antonianas XIX and XX, the military camp and recent capital convent of Lucus Augusti with the two main ports of the moment: Brigantium and Iri with Flavia a clear purpose of supply and control of the territory. The second stage would be closely linked to the transformations carried out by the emperors flavios with the settlement of military units, the development process developer and the construction of new roads interiors. In fact, the old ways augústeas XIX and XX suffer a review with the intention of the Bush Administration with the emerging Roman camp of Cidadela, while emerging as the internal road linking Lucus Augusti with Bracara Augusta. The result is the establishment of a network camineira comprising eight routes on which each chapter is desgranando documentary sources that support, layout, location delas mansions and the archaeological remains of their environment. Summary: Following in the footsteps of the New Cultural History, the present research work examines historical perspective the various cultural representations of the Inquisition from the fifteenth century to the present. Already in 1967, the lucid professor don Julio Caro Baroja warned in his insightful Mr Inquisitor of the great distance between the current archetype inquisitor tyrannical, ruthless and cruel and gray historical reality of the inquisitor career as a civil servant. The studies inquisitorial boom of the seventies also delved into the historical revisionism of the inquisitorial institution, providing a comprehensive understanding of its structure, government, distribution, functions or activities. Only recently have studies inquisitorial deepened in analyzing their imagination. With Edward Peters and Doris Moreno at the top in recent years has deepened in the investigation of the different looks they have planned, represented, misrepresented and distorted the reality inquisitorial, as well as their respective ideological constructs. It is in the latter framework that circumscribes the objective of this dissertation: the analysis of the historical and cultural roots that underlie the development of a comprehensive imaginary inquisitorial that persists, it grows and continues to this day. To that end, we introduced the long path that has discurrido cultural image of the Inquisition, with particular emphasis on the eye of the imaginary (literature and art). In this regard, the two major methodological problems that had arisen research has been the chronological breadth and the tremendous diversity and heterogeneity of sources. The first has been resolved conducting so-called Caro Baroja  "Time of cosasÂ" thus representing not only analyzes itself, but it is located on a comparative in its historical context. The second methodological problem has forced an exercise in-depth research in archives, libraries and museums around the world (British Library, Bibliotheque National de France, Biblioteca Nacional, El Prado, Stà ¤ delsches Kunstinstitut und Stà ¤ dtische Galerie, Szépmà "vészeti Múzeum or Kunsthistorisches Museum), which appears to have been fruitful. The structure of the thesis resigue broadly characterization and classification established by Doris Moreno (The invention of the Inquisition, 2004), serving as a framework from which to deepen the different media, uses and contexts that have enveloped the representations in his inquisitorial long-distance. It has placed special emphasis on the representation of the imaginary (the eyes of writers and artists) and the mirror of contemporaneity. From this perspective, the present investigation has discurrido stunned by the look of the victims (Ibn Verga, ha-Kohen, Pereyra, Pinto Delgado), the belligerent of Protestants (Luther, Montanus, Tyndale, Fox) or criticism of the enlightened (Voltaire, Montesquieu, Helvétius), but also by the dramatic intensity of engraving and painting (Schoonebeeck, Picart, Callot, Magnasco, Hogarth, Goya), by the terrifying beauty of goticismo (Walpole, Radcliffe, Lewis, Sade, Maturin, Poe), the spectacular opera (Donizetti, Gounod, Verdi, Prokofiev, Dallapicolla, Bernstein), by the ethical and theological discussion (Dostoievsky, Sloterdijk, Safranski, Ratzinger) or desenfadada diversity of contemporary pop culture.
  • SALAZAR OLIVEIRA: "MISSÒO" EDUCATIONAL "BRIDGE" TO HOMELAND

Summary: The investigation is live wire identification of the "mission" educational "save" the motherland by Oliveira Salazar. The emphasis on the assumption that his family education protected by the Catholic Church and training seminarística formed his political strategy and education is the basis for the argument in the thesis. The political strategies of Salazar wanted to restore a "painful" that needed to be edited by inherited defects of the First Republic: secularism, modernism, liberalism and democracy. Exactamentre the very vices targeted the Catholic Church in its work of social regeneration. Salazar is presented as genuine activist in the cause Catholic priesthood and assumes a secular and nationalist, unstructured jurisdiction in the church but sharing the common goals. This attitude "seminarística" dictatorial nature manifests itself after World War II that, without condemning fascisms, and we rejoice in its permanence, in a pragmatic way establishes their differences and try to justify, seeking to join Western bloc and their organizations without abdicate the personal dictatorship, which strengthens. Salazar maintains the same intrasigencia seminarística, regretting the lack of international support for their struggle against communism, and that until an accident cut government. But even until his death remains in the illusion of its "mission" messianic. In educational strategies Salazar appropriates a school system of the modern and secular Republic and I conceived the school's Estado Novo in the same way as clerical school, as "sacred office of souls." It was built as a locus of moral and nationalist education a priority, with archetypes heroes and saints. The school curriculum is limited to what the regime considers essential, namely the ability to read, write and count. And the teaching of secondary schools and the university is a tool for training schedules to help integrate the masses, corporately structured, in the organic body of the nation. In the analysis of the state of New regimen highlights denominational roots on which it is based and how those roots extend to the educational system
