Summary: The furniture industry Valencian framed in the typology of SMEs, generally requires initiatives to support innovation. This thesis is part of the research project CYCIT M ADIS DPI2002-04357-C03-03. The overall objective is the implementation of the family of methodologies in the integration of design and manufacturing activities using graphical modeling techniques with structured information in a concurrent environment. It discusses the main models of innovation, and the dynamics of the environment, industry and market conditions and influence economic activity the furniture sector. We analyze and confront traditional theories of product and process design, with new theories based on modeling techniques. It applies IDEF0 to vet the case of manufacture of an innovative product of adjustable ergonomic chair to reduce processing times. The application shows significant areas of opportunity through the modeling techniques IDEF in formad and improved productivity by reducing time processes through the structuring and organizing functions. The proposed implementation of IDEF brings benefits that can be measured in terms of cost savings, as well as the structuring and planning of activities, capacity integration of the design process and manufacturing innovator in a concurrent environment.
