Summary: This dissertation presents a dynamic simulation model, called DESPAS, whose aim is to contribute to the understanding of the systems ganado-pasto-suelo in general and the processes of desertification by overgrazing in particular. There are two main features of the new model: (i) the treatment of all three elements mentioned, and (ii) the consideration of the dynamics of livestock directly determined by economic variables. With the construction and analysis of DESPAS intend to contribute some of the proposals made by the National Action Program to Combat Desertification (PAND), which have to do with the striking lack of scientific knowledge on the subject exists in Spain, among other countries Europeans with the greatest problems of desertification. Thus, this paper examines what can be manifestations of one of the possible scenarios of desertification in our country, overgrazing, and proposes calculating cie!
