  • COMPARISON OF THREE METHODS FOR QUITTING IN A PRIMARY CARE

    Summary: The context of health care is uniquely placed to encourage the abandonment of smoking, due mainly to the high accessibility and high coverage of the general population. The primary objectives of this research are as follows: 1-Know the effectiveness of three different programs for smoking cessation in the area of primary care: minimum intervention (more medical advice booklet shortly), multi individual program, and with self-help program telephone follow-up. 2-To compare the efficiency (cost) of these same programs. 3-Check the additional effect on the efficiency and cost effectiveness of using an alternative therapy. The total sample of the study (N164) was extracted from the people assigned to three areas Basic Health Health Area VII of Asturias (Mieres). Participants were randomly assigned to each of the treatment conditions. In smokers included in the group of council were provided with a brief council systematic and standardized, adapted to the emotional state of the smoker. In the self-help group with follow-up telephone components were: council soon, the patient delivery of a self-help handbook multicomponent and four follow-up telephone calls. A multi-program participants were treated with an individual program for five weeks, with a weekly meeting of about twenty minutes.
