Summary: The thesis consists of an empirical research on the performance of professional social workers and their relationship to the employment context and burnout. The study population were the social workers in active Teams Social Base (ESB) of the General Social Services in the province of Alicante, members of the operational heart of the same, whose duties involve direct care to individuals, families, groups and / or comunidades.Para It has pursued a strategy of triangulation research methodology combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with the use of three different techniques for collecting data: analysis of secondary sources (6 international and 4 national), groups discussion (14 discussion groups in which the 82% of the social workers of the province which represented 82% of the municipalities of Alicante) and survey (N = 197, n = 135, 69% response). results have shown that the performance of the social workers in the ESB is characterized by a poor performance by default (Overall, about 25% of the truly professional skills can not be developed), low job satisfaction and a low tendency to neglect the organization. The powers relating to the practice are the most direct valued and also performed to a greater extent. The major discrepancies between the skills needed and the real occur in practice and indirect reflection and assessment trabajo.Respecto to burnout, average levels were observed in the three dimensions of burnout that were much higher than those of the three investigations those were compared. Also significant associations were found on the size of burnout, especially the emotional exhaustion, with the levels of desempeño.Los results also showed the importance of the employment context in performance. The horizontal division of labor among social workers is the only dimension of the structure of the organization that were observed in the performance levels significantly different (higher level of performance when there is a horizontal specialization). The main gap in the dynamics of the organization occurs in the area of equity. In addition, the perceived performance and increase job satisfaction, and the propensity to walkout decreases, when functioning properly the key areas of working life and the key processes of corporate governance. The explanation of these results can be found in the requirements of the role that Spanish model of Social Services conducts regard to the role of social workers, by the processes of "naturalization" of the professional activities carried out by women, and so on. And a wide range of difficulties of a social nature, trade, organizational, professional, and so on. The social workers are to define their roles and retain professionals in a field where intervention is the professional reference.
