ANALYSIS OF ATTITUDES TOWARDS DEATH AND ILL AT THE END OF LIFE IN NURSING STUDENTS IN ANDALUSIA AND CATALONIA.Summary: The objective of this thesis is to find out the motivation that has the professional future of Nursing to work with terminally ill and that factors cognitivo-emocionales can increase or decrease in such motivation. We carried out a study with 621 students enrolled in nursing studies in Andalusia and Catalonia during the academic year 2002-2003. From the results of such studies, the following conclusions are drawn: Students of this work, to complete their education, would like to work with sick children, being the least desirable option, caring for terminally ill. A high level of competence Perceived Faced with the death correlates with have more desire to work with terminally ill, less fear of death and fear less the dead. On the other hand, higher levels of Autoeficiencia Against Death, greater willingness to work with terminally ill, greater competition and lower Perceived fear of death and the dead. There is a direct relationship between Perceived Emotional intelligence, and willingness to work with terminally ill. The main findings of this study lead us to raise the need to take into account in shaping the future of professional nursing, cognitive and emotional processes outlined above.
