RECONFIGURATION PRODUCTIVE URBAN GROWTH AND IDENTITY: SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF THE POOR IN THE URBAN PERIPHERY IN A CITY IN NORTHERN MEXICOSummary: APPROACH The thesis explores some of the socio-cultural changes associated with the insertion of Mexico in the globality and its impact on the subjectivity of social actors. The northern border of Mexico is an area in which the reconfiguration economic, productive and social processes are particularly visible. The state of Sonora, and in particular its capital city (which by its proximity to the United States represents a strategic enclave for the implementation of the export manufacturing industry), constitute an observatory in which the traditional and the modern, global and local acquire a specific historic achievement. Linking this with the whole region has involved simultaneous processes of economic growth and development but also for certain groups of exclusion and precarious for many others. The city of Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora, offers a dual image of prosperity and backwardness that is visible on the coexistence of urban areas and branded interstitial spaces which have been the product of invasions (illegal appropriation of urban land) carried out primarily by rural migrants from various areas of the state and national geography. The study addresses the inquiry into the nature of such creconfiguraciones, especially for the purposes of these transmutations in subjectivity and the identities of those living in the periphery delas growing cities. Interesting, then, to understand the dimension of this exclusive city while dual purpose of perception, that is, from the perspectives and views (the referees) to you, and depending on their position in the social space goal , the social actors come to represent and give meaning to the "moment" (or "time") of the historical flow in which they are located. STRATEGY METHODOLOGY The methodological strategy consisted of a combination of methods and techniques for quantitative (exploitation of secondary data, census and survey on family perception of the place -éste last conducted in primary and secondary schools in the colonies San Luis and Combat) and qualitative (in-depth interview and ethnographic observation), which together allowed recognize scene investigation (characteristics) and the meanings from which social actors give the sense of living reality. This study went to the corpus discursive produced through interviews to identify, on the one hand, the sense of place and on the other representations on other areas of the lives of subjects such as family, work, leisure and outside the interactions. The consideration of generation criterion in the selection of the interviewees made possible differentiate perceptions (appraisals, meanings) and appreciate the culture and values change between subjects of different generation who have lived times (and social) different in the process of redesigning the region under study. INPUTS Some of the contributions of this work are: "Show how the contradictory effects of the globalization process, seen from its banks, is also manifest in the subjectivities and identities of the most vulnerable groups". "Show that the scenes of the areas called" developing "the so-called cultural hybridization is a process associated with urban sprawl in which discrete practices that existed in isolation combine to generate new structures, practices, objects and meanings."
