We consider the construction of meanings part of the process of reproduction and social change. These meanings interact with the social practices and social structure in a dynamic way. From this perspective we multidisciplinary review, in such matters as the image of the city, symbols and urban identities, or culture. Also at others including most recently the issue of meanings, such as how urban local politics, the processes of segregation, the new urban middle classes, or the study of the neighborhoods. Salamanca appears as a historical and cultural city, based on the past and the university, to benefit the historic area. These attributes make up the strategic stake in the city. Within the city are three distinct areas: the center, buffer zones and the suburbs, with different meanings and valuations. The center is valued, used and visible, we have to keep it clean (dirt and poor people). The buffer zone is valued by the peripheries, but not from the center. It strives to differentiate itself from the suburbs. Differences between districts are diluted and used so undifferentiated spaces and their resources. The suburbs have a negative image, are considered somewhat distinct from the city are the place of evil and ill. Local politicians share the global picture and the parts of the city and act according to the same, thus reinforcing the internal differences of the city.

Summary: The thesis interprets social change in the late twentieth century through the analysis of sport in the city today, meaning the sport as a social practice which is based on an urban space and dense. In sports are represented all social values which are distributed according to groups that differ, it mimic or oppose. The city of Seville expresses this new way of urban life, where the roots of tradition uniquely blend with modern values, giving rise to interactions that are unique to the emerging postmodernism. The coexistence between the old city and the island of La Cartuja where enterprises are located in R & D shows both an aesthetic difference as ethical, cultural and economic terms, as well as a metaphor of extreme urban lifestyles, they are distant from the customer citizen, the worker or from the consumer where visual culture as a substitute for written says John Urry, or the passage of the state to market, the city is changed, new forms of use in places public ceasing to be simple, open and uniforms to become multipurpose, privatized and segmented. The practice in the free time opens so heterogeneous and hasty at times. Seville has been characterized from the nineties as a city sports oriented programming as part of a strategy of local governments. Given that fact, the various actors involved, the State, enterprises and associations, have occupied various positions, interests and forces to interpret its role in that arena where sport is an important element for regulating urban life. Decode socially sport, the spectacle from the practice, has required a dual methodology, quantitative, which has been coordinated with its own sources that include four statistical surveys, 31 in-depth interviews, three discussion groups, the press and Dossiers , in particular, direct observation and personal. Data have also been developed from indirect sources. The field work has lasted ten years. To observe socially sport has been investigated over their roles in latent in their overt roles in more significant than in the meanings, in the social rather than economic, and in the symbolic rather than the real. According to Henri Lefebvre, space is a projection of the social structure. In sports, users produce practices, which are quantifiable and objective and also produce representations, which are more qualitative and subjective. In these two levels of analysis includes analysis of the representations of space dictated by the planners of the city, whose design has an important influence on the behavior of users. The sports are parasitic social habits which produce sports, following the concept of Bourdieu, where the category of distinction is a key feature on the tour that consumption of sport. Ultimately relations based on the urban sport opens a menu of different distinctions, based on various physical spaces where social control is also monitoring space, according to Michel Foucault, and this observation is the nature of the remark while sports that sport is a socially constructed roles where they exert control through hierarchical architecture and speeches. Finally, the thematic clusters are covered sports as social spaces, secondly, he examines the space of sports entertainment as a space estructuraste of urban growth.
  • CALATRAVA SA MON AMOUR. ETHNOGRAPHY D'UN BARRI ATRAPAT IN THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE CAPITAL.

Summary: "Sa Calatrava Mon Amour" is the study of the relationship between urban regeneration schemes (PERI), which have been carried out in Sa Calatrava and foremas collective action in this small neighborhood situated on the southern tip of the coastline of historical center of Palma (Majorca). The main hypothesis that guides the work is that in addition to his interest generates capital gains for real estate these plans promote the depoliticization of the district, the erosion of its capacity to organize collectively. This erosion is not considered as an effect or a epifenómno the willingness of benefit, but at the same time as (a) a requirement that the removal of capital gains can be made more efficient model, and (b) in itself a target of urban plans, which thereby became regarded not only economic tools or urban Zion mechanisms of political control and governmentality. This dual process is especially visible in Sa calatrava from the mid-90's with the arrival of European funds (URBAN) certify that a neo-liberal turn in policy planning (framed within the 3rd Boom tourist economy Balearic). In fact, this argument stems from the belief that there is a need to carry out investigations, beginning the overall framework of economics, studied the performance of neoliberal globalization in specific contexts that are heurísticamente appropriate for the qualitative research. After studying urban Palma and make contact with several entities citizens during 2003, I chose Sa Calatrava as the unit of analysis appropriate because: 1-It has carried out a rehabilitation plan along delos past 20 years that has been gradually more interested in producing capital gains and gentrificación and beautify their space with specialized meanings historical, cultural and heritage. 2, Sa-calatrava conflicts exist neighborhood finally have formalized in the presence of 2 Associations opposing Neighbors: these disputes refer the built environment and ultimately put on the table the contradiction between the courage to change and use the urban space. According to the above this research in urban anthropology is based on field work 18 months (January 2004 - June 2005) residing in the neighborhood. Further analysis of the film (particularly in reference to urban plans and movement neighborhood) and the emptying of the press, this field work is complemented by conducting 40 interviews and semi-open to residents and exresidentes Sa Calatrava, with its proximity to neighborhood associations the main selection criterion used. The time frame covered by the thesis goes back to the Transition, as it is at this historic moment to fetch the origin of the institutional forms that guide our argument (PERI and AAVV). In this sense the thesis makes a considerable effort to locate the main vectors that allow us to understand this historic moment and urbanism it generates. On the other hand too much emphasis is placed on understanding the mechanisms by which produces resistance and opposition to certain urban projects, and discusses the viability and budgets especially those demonstrations that are organized around economic demands. The final conclusions of the thesis reflect, perhaps from ethnographic study on the role of space in political control. Indeed, the thesis ultimately addresses the issue of political control, understanding urbanism neoliberal as a central buernamentalidad seeking political control from the disarray and fragmentation of the population. Based on this idea, and compared to those points of 8 hearing qu 37d and see the attachment to the place of origin domination by flows and global elites and cosmopolitan, the thesis argues that the strengthening of the place is a mechanism key to reducing this domination and equip the population with defense mechanisms against loss of control (alignment) over their lives. Thus, specialization process neoliberación devine not only an arena of social research imperative but also a political agenda.

Summary: Since the explosion of industrial and urban Barcelona, the people in his municipality Central had experienced steady growth of the population until the late 1970, a population increase based on the incessant input variable migration. Coinciding with the saturation of the municipal urban fabric, the volume of population reached its ceiling, which continued a period of loss of troops, arrested recently by the transnationalization of migratory flows. This Doctoral Thesis is framed in the context of this saturated Barcelona, a period in which the redefinition of the social and demographic structure of the population residing in the city is not only a result of the characteristics of the individuals who are entering the city, but those who leave the town center. The paper proposes the study of the sociodemographic characteristics of migrants who have passed through the city of Barcelona, and thus able to identify the existence of a possible selectivity migratory filtered individuals involved in migration flows. Sintetizando contrasts the profile of migrants, immigrants and residents who change housing within the central city and analyzes the impact of migration on the redefinition of the characteristics of the population residing in the Catalan capital. The results confirm the existence of one or more filters migratory exercised by the central city, so that the sociodemographic characteristics of individuals who have included the municipality of Barcelona in their residential route are different depending on the type of movement made. This diverse membership has determined the characteristics of the rejuvenation of the population of Barcelona, redefining its structure sociodemographic.
