    Summary: This thesis is a case study on the analysis from the perspective agroecological of change brought about by a rural development project in family farming. The investigation was carried out in thirteen municipalities constituting the area of jurisdiction of the Project Gaviao, located south of the central part of the state of Bahia on the edge of the so-called "bombing droughts." This work is organized into three distinct parts. The first part is an introduction, which is devoted to exposing the state of research on family farms. In the second part we collect the theoretical aspects of the interests of the investigation, a theoretical conceptual framework that contains a reference analytical scheme on rural development and sustainable development. Also, try the Agroecology overcoming a proposal, which promotes an ecological management of natural resources and agricultural production. Still, in this part we present how the participation of the subjects involved may contribute more efectivaen results submitted by proyectosde rural development. In the third part, we verify from the results of the investigation, at the field level, the changes generated by the project in their area of jurisdiction, in the económicos-productivos, socio-economic, socio-cultural, socio - political and environmental issues. We seek, too, advancing our study on the results achieved, through the analysis of the impacts generated by the changes. So, we approached from impacts on the physical infrastructure impacts on the families of the communities, social impacts and empowerment action communities, impacts on food security and the environment to the impact on the status of Women and other impacts on poverty. In addition, collect the speeches and sentiments of the beneficiaries of the project, about the impacts on their lives and those of their families and communities as well as the trend of social thought dominant among them about the project and future possibilities.

    Summary: For the study of the reproduction and redefinition of what peasant from the rural ecology, it is essential to consider the categories of domestic unit, agroescosistema and rural economy, which constitute the immediate area in which social reproduction strategies adopted by the peasantry , in a particular place and time, are developed. At the same time, these three categories constitute the major socialization of knowledge and know-how to be the farmer. Despite the importance of cultivating snuff (both for its historic character as for the dynamic that recreated at the socio-cultural, economic and political) in the mosaic of agricultural activities and the regional economy nayarita, not all phenomena associated with it have Like aroused interest in the research carried out. Ideas like its predecessors have been the source of inspiration of this work in the quest to contribute, through the upgrading of local knowledge in a complex and controversial "indigenous community" to the traditional tobacco area of Nayarit, to the discussion of the studies peasants in contemporary realities as well as to the rescue and strengthening the sense of belonging to the locality, which serves, as well as a brake on the abandonment of traditional activities and the people (given by the high rates of emigration that existed), to enhance a genuine process sustainable development.
