POSSIBLE SCENARIOS FOR THE FUTURE OF GLOBAL EMISSIONS AND REMOVALS CO2 AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE KYOTO ACCORDSAuthor: FELIPE BLANCH JOSE JUAN DE. Year: 2003. University: POLITÉCNICA DE CATALUÑA [ www.upc.edu]. Place of defense: SALA CONFERÈNCIES .EUETIT. Place of preparation: EDIFICI TR1 EUETIT CAMPUS TERRASSA. Summary: The problem of emissions and its direct effect, Climate Change afflicting the planet is global, comprehensive, and it intervenes directly man, as an individual and as a society. This thesis, it attempts to analyze different possible paths to the future in the short term, this environmental problem, bearing in mind both the physical and political-social interrelationships (feedback) involving these emissions, which affect and impact so directly a man's life, and in general, life on our planet. Therefore, as specified by the title of the thesis, the goal of this is a study of the political, economic, technological and environmental goals in CO2 emissions, which will allow us to explore a variety of such emissions in the near future (with a vision to 12 year horizon), and at the same time help us, really, to define the set of policy actions more appropriate to approach most closely to the goals of the agreements of the Kyoto Protocol, under the point of Given the sustainability of development. To this end, we will have a thorough study of the evolution of emissions to the present, as well as its relationship with technology, economics and politics, in order to know as many details as possible, their interrelationships, and then power parametrizarlas , and conduct a model multilevel, hierarchical, allowing us to conduct surveys of different future under different scenarios (as realistic as possible). The second step then will make a mathematical model of a second level or mid-level, we relate the different variables, both economic, technological and political as well as environmental, allowing us to predict the various possible developments in gas emissions greenhouse on the planet in the future (carbon dioxide, exclusively), entwined by a model of the first level or higher level, will allow us to take into account the possible political implications that may occur, depending on the various evolutions of the variables input valued at the lower hierarchy These models will follow the guidelines set by the Kyoto Summit, as well as marked by the following Conventions on the matter, taking into account takeovers, and the potential emissions market, and other mechanisms such flexibility provided by international treaties. These models will be developed focusing on the dynamic relationship between the main economy, technology and emissions of greenhouse gases, as well as policies and their interaction through time. Moreover, we will use publicly available data in different databases (IEA, UN, FAO and various international agencies), and results of complex integrated models to parameterize the variables of the model and apply it to all regions of the world . For the calculation of CO2 emissions using the criteria used by the IPCC (International Pannel Climate Change).
TOOLS AND METHODS FOR MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION. MODEL FOCUSED ON THE AUTHOR MCASummary: This research work relates to the techniques and methods for the creation and production of multimedia content and focuses on the study of the tasks to develop multimedia content authors. The Multimedia Applications Laboratory of UPC (hereinafter LAM) has developed and implemented over the past years a production model of multimedia digital content aimed at facilitating the integration of content experts in the process of multimedia production. The work on which this study began in the year 1992 although the data have been taken into account in the investigation relates to the applications developed in the period 1992-204, the investigation is based on the experience that began in the year 1987., and reflects the experience: An analysis of the productions performed prior to the study period by 15 people and 39,840 hours. 145 projects developed with the participation of 54 persons endorsements in the worksheets provided 88,919 hours for the various tasks multimedia production during the period covered by the study. Experience in applying for training in techniques and methods for the production of multimedia: 120 teachers from University 3,820 students Engineering 730 students specializing in multimedia production. The various systems developed for this model, based on the design process and in the use and adaptation of the commercial software tools have been applied consistently in the 31 projects that are the basis of this empirical research. The investigation has centered on the goal of developing a model multimedia production focusing on the author. The model developed and tested has been obtained from the observation and analysis of the type of tasks, and knowledge associated with them, involved in the development of multimedia content and allows the author to move some of the capabilities of professional profiles involved in the production process. The presentation of the research is organized into 5 sections: 1. Objectives and method. It defines the goals of the investigation, the scope for which the results are valid provided and sets out the work process has been followed. 2. Theoretical Study. We present knowledge which constitute the conceptual framework of reference for the investigation. 3. Development and description of the model. It describes the work done in the field of the gradual development of the model and in obtaining the criteria for maintenance and improvement. 4. Results. It defines a model for training perpetrators of content, which is the concrete result of this investigation. 5. Conclusions It completes the memory of research with a summary of the conclusions it has reached research, as well as lines of continuity of the same. MODEL QUALITY INDICATORS IN THE LIFE CYCLE OF REAL ESTATE PROJECTS.Author: GARZA GONZALEZ MARIO. Year: 2006. University: POLITÉCNICA DE CATALUÑA [ www.upc.edu]. Place of defense: AULA 10.44 (PLANTA 10, ETSEIB). Place of preparation: EDIFICI TR5 PLANTA 2, DESPATX 2.09 TR. Summary: The quality is not just a desirable trait in the products or services that we offer daily to our clients anymore instead it has evolved in a commitment and a key factor to accomplish our goals and the survival of any company. Itâs true that a lot has been accomplished and valuable contributions have been made to the subject. However its scope is for the manufacturer industry mostly leaving behind industries as important as the construction industry. This behavior is due to the âcontrolled' and ârepeatingâ nature that suggests the manufacturing of a product, because of the repeating processes that could be isolated establishing quality cycles and continuous improvements that would affect the next cycle. In the case of the construction projects itâs different because the quality control is limited to the accomplishment of the specification either of the raw material or the finished product established in the project. It does not really exist a system that assures the quality in all the activities that have been made. Thatâs why the interest in generating a model whose purpose is to adapt the best way it can the tools and quality models to an industry as important as the construction. So we can establish continuous improvement cycles during the life cycle. To accomplish this first we have to analyze the organizational structure of a typical construction company to understand how it is composed, how it works, how its departments interact, which activities they do, how they do it and how all this takes place in the life cycle of the project. Once that it has been analyzed each one of these elements we plan to establish the processes involved during the life cycle of the construction project and define their incomes, outcomes and the relation of each one with the rest of the processes as the departments involved as well. With the processes identified we could establish quality milestones for each one of them and use techniques and tools that allow measure their performance and their continuous improvement from the first income to the last output The prime objective that is intended to achieve is design a model that could be use as guidelines and methodology for the implementation of continuous improvement cycles in all the processes involved in construction projects. The main purpose of this investigation is to merge all the analysis made to the processes that take place in the construction projects and develop a conceptual model that allows the establishment of quality indicators in each one of them. Its validation will come form the implementation of the model in construction companies where the performance and the real quality improvement of the processes could be track down and measured
